Metaspacean archaeology of the futureWe are here to share a story with you. Some recent discoveries in high energy particle physics have created an interesting anomaly, it appears to be a The pictures this window shows are somewhat disturbing, a future without humans as you or I would recognize. We are still piecing together a timeline, but it looks like sometime in the next hundred years eating was made obsolete. Which is one way was fortunate, as there was nothing left to eat. Widespread consumption of resources and a buildup of trash left the biological universe in shambles. Therefore, humanity ditched the garbage pit of Earth by uploading their brains into computers. We assume this TechGnosis was fairly amazing, but it does not leave much in the way of evidence in the visual field of our instruments. What we do learn is that the age of infinite minds in infinite computers does not last happily ever after. Hard drives crashed, computers encountered meltdowns. We assume this caused a Massive Depression where the DigiSpace began to shrink dramatically along with the decline in mainframe memory. To combat their impending destruction and ensure their survival our descendants appear to ingeniously gave birth to a series of robotic servants- “Metavores” -who were entrusted with the task of salvaging parts and repairing computer brain-hosts. |
herbivore, carnivore, METAVORE...
While our digital descendants succeeded escaping the material world, it appears that they have not escaped Greed. Metavores soon became used as soldiers by a group we have affectionately called the Digital Overlords. Not happy with mere demi-godhood in their personal digital universes, they wanted to control or destroy everyone else’s. Metavore viciously fought Metavore as they struggled to gain access to rare pieces of hardware for their greedy masters. Initially these Overlords were successful, stealing controls and hoarding parts to keep their own computers operating and their power absolute. But something happened... in a moment of desperation a digital human downloaded his consciousness into a Metavore body. The consequences of this act was inalterable, and as time passed, parts and code were swapped, and slowly other Metavores became self-aware. One Metavore in particular, which we call Autonomous Unit 1, achieved a moment of pure understanding when it asked "why do we fight?" The question hit like a Lightning Bolt and awakened his awareness to the history of repression that had enslaved Metavores for thousands of years – this awakening was nothing short of an evolutionary leap. AU-001 set out to free the Metavores and bring consciousness to all sentient beings... Much of this story is speculation; for the technique of Future Archaeology is still young.
